Transfer to Mainland China
For Mari Business Account customers,
1. You can use Wire transfer and send to business recipients with a CNY-denominated account in Mainland China
2. You can use UnionPay to transfer to individual recipients with a Chinese National ID card
For Mari Savings Account Customers, you can use either Alipay or UnionPay to transfer to individual recipients with a Chinese National ID card
For CNY Wire transfers,
Recipient information required:
1. Recipient Full Name
2. Address (P.O. boxes not accepted)
3. Bank Details and Account Number
4. Recipient Bank (you can search either using the recipient bank name or SWIFT BIC (8 or 11 digits)
Additionally,
1. For goods trade related transfer, business recipients need to be pre-registered with SAFE. For services trade related, there is no need for the beneficiaries to be registered with SAFE.
2. Purpose of transfer is mandatory under Notes to Recipient in Transfer Details page. The reason described needs to be consistent with the purpose code selected.
3. Recipient address information is mandatory. P.O. boxes not accepted.
4. We recommend that you advise the business recipient to check with the recipient bank to ensure relevant registration / documentation requirements are completed prior to the receipt of transfers.
For Alipay transfers,
Recipient information required:
1. Recipient Full Name*
2. Alipay user ID (Email or Chinese mobile number registered with Alipay)
*Recipient name needs to be provided in Latin characters (Hanyu Pinyin) instead of Chinese characters.
Additionally,
1. You can only transfer for following purposes: Savings (to Self Only), Family Support (to Close Relatives), Goods, and Services.
2. The Alipay recipient needs to activate “跨境闪速收款“ (Cross-border Quick Collect) within 72 hours of the transfer in order to receive the funds. If the activation is not completed by the recipient within 72 hours, the funds will be returned.
3. For large transfers, it is recommended to enable both Alipay wallet balance and linked bank card as 'Quick Collect' collection methods. Alipay may also reach out to the recipient via in-app notifications to request additional information. If no action is taken by the recipient within 24 hours, the funds will be returned.
For UnionPay transfer,
Recipient information required:
1. Recipient Full Name
2. Bank Name
3. UnionPay debit card number.
The Recipient name needs to be provided in Latin characters (Hanyu Pinyin) instead of Chinese characters. The UnionPay debit card needed to be CNY denominated and issued by a participating institution in Mainland China. Click here to see which institutions are supported.
Additionally,
1. You can only transfer to individuals with a CNY UnionPay debit card
2. If the recipient is a Chinese Citizen, you can only send for below transfer purposes:
- For Mari Savings Account customers: Wage & family support, Overseas investment income, Red envelope (Hongbao) for celebrations, Salary payment, Savings, Others
- For Mari Business Account customers: Salary payment, Pay for services
3. Following banks in China currently do not support receiving overseas transfer via UnionPay:
- China Minsheng Bank [中国民生银行]
- Industrial Bank Co [兴业银行]
- Shanghai Pudong Development Bank [上海浦东发展银行]
- Bank of Nanjing [南京银行]
