4 Family-friendly Holiday Destinations for Your Next Trip
10 Apr 2026
Taking your little ones on a holiday is all about building core memories they will treasure and remember for life, but any parent knows that a great family trip relies on the right logistics. It’s no longer just about the scenery. You need to strategise and look for stroller-friendly paths, kid-approved activities, and the holy grail of travel: readily available lifts.

After all, a dream destination can quickly feel like a workout if you’re lugging gear and tired toddlers up flights of stairs—so choosing a spot that’s as accessible as it is exciting, makes all the difference.

For a child-appropriate trip without any unexpected surprises, we recommend sticking with these four popular family-friendly holiday destinations. These locations are not too far from Singapore, so they’re convenient to get to.
How to choose which country to go for a Family-friendly holiday
Consider your kids’ ages
First and foremost, when planning a family-friendly holiday, you need to look at the activities and attractions that are age-appropriate.

If you’re travelling with toddlers, a clean and relatively quiet beach allows for easy sand and water play. Older kids may appreciate something more engaging, such as a city tour by bus, or theme parks featuring popular characters or games. For teenagers, broaden their horizons with museums, galleries, concerts, plays and performances, featuring themes or subjects that appeal to their interests.
Cater to all preferences
Remember that your children may have different needs and wants when travelling, so it’s important to cater to individual preferences. More active and adventurous children may need open spaces to explore and play, while quieter ones may prefer visiting a video game arcade or simply having a cozy corner to chill.

Look for multi-purpose attractions such as resorts that offer a good mix of different options, and pair children up with responsible family members (older cousins, aunts and uncles) so all can enjoy their preferred activities.
Avoid attractions advertised as “kid-friendly”
This may sound counter-intuitive, but places that are advertised as “kid-friendly” will likely end up unappealing – overcrowded, filled with screaming kids and exhausted parents slumped over in every corner. This goes double for hotels advertised as such which may end up looking like glorified playgrounds with sleeping rooms, and overpriced to boot.

Instead, use your intuition to choose venues and places that your kids are likely to enjoy – no one knows them better than you afterall. And also, especially for older children, bringing them to places that aren’t specifically for kids only is a good way to let them demonstrate good behaviour.

The key is to research and read actual reviews left by other parents!
Don’t be afraid to try new things
Your kids may not like kayaking, or scuba diving, or attending a concert where they play music from the Lord of the Rings. Or they may fall in love with it and it becomes their most favourite thing in the world.

The point is, don’t limit your itinerary based on what you think your children may like. Go ahead and try something new. Holidays are meant for new and different experiences afterall, and the novelty will make for some cool new memories no matter what.
Family-friendly can be budget-friendly too
Don’t forget to factor in your budget when choosing places to travel with your family. Remember, you don’t have to go far or spend a bomb just to have a wallet-friendly holiday.

Southeast Asia (and for that matter, Asia) offers plenty of child-friendly holiday options, from theme parks to wildlife reserves, mega shopping malls and everything in between.

Provided you don’t mind the distance, certain Eastern European regions can also make for family-friendly holidays, and without breaking the bank too. Western Europe and Australia may be popular, but they will likely require a larger budget.
Four Family-friendly holiday destinations to consider
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

The capital city of our direct neighbour, Kuala Lumpur (KL) is a sprawling metropolis ideal for family-friendly vacations. It is within easy reach by car or plane, and offers a family-yet-different environment that even the fussiest of kids will soon take to.

KL offers plenty of things to see and do for families. Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) is a bustling shopping mall offering world class shopping, hotels, restaurants and cafes. Kids will love the Petrosains Discovery Centre (a science museum), filled with interactive and fun exhibits, and the KL Aquarium creates a mesmerising visit to see denizens of the sea up close.

Sunway Lagoon is another popular family-friendly attraction. The water theme park contains six different themed play areas where you can go on rides and enjoy getting wet under the sun. Combine with Sunway Pyramid for shopping and bites for a full day out.

Other options for families include KidZania KL, a giant playground where kids get to role-play different occupations and jobs, earn money and spend their earnings within the park, and Mega Kidz World, an indoors play centre located on the top floor of Mid Valley Mega Mall.
Bangkok, Thailand

Bangkok may have a somewhat-seedy reputation among travellers, but the truth is, the Thai capital offers plenty of options as a wholesome family-friendly holiday destination.

The bustling city is something to be experienced, filled with stately temples, skyscrapers, gigantic shopping malls and streets thrumming with a palpable electricity. There’s no other city in Asia that quite matches Bangkok’s unique character.

Head to CentralWorld and ICONSIAM, two of the largest shopping complexes in Asia, where you and your family can easily spend the better part of a day shopping, eating and shopping some more.

Then there’s the famous Chatuchak Market, a paradise for bargain hunting, with everything from clothes to toys to homeware on offer. Right across it is the Children’s Discovery Museum, great as an alternative pit stop for restless children.

Got some animal lovers on the trip? Book a trip to Safari World Bangkok for some close encounters of the furry kind. There’re two parks to explore, Safari Park, featuring thrilling drives through natural animal habitats, and Marine Park, which offers a more traditional zoo-like experience.

You have animal lovers on the trip? And if your kids love indoor playgrounds, bring them to Mega HarborLand, Bangkok’s largest indoor family playground featuring dedicated age-appropriate play zones.
Langkawi, Malaysia

For a chill, family vacation, head over to Langkawi, a relaxed tropical island featuring clean beaches, calm waters, and sunny vistas.

Tucked away at the northernmost end of West Malaysia, Langkawi is well connected with several flights, meaning it’s easily accessible from Singapore via a 90-minute flight.

Once you get there, it’s time to unwind. Langkawi offers several resorts with family rooms, infinity pools and beachside lounging, framed against a stunning backdrop of sea and sky. Spend a weekend here exploring the nearby island chains, visit the Bird Paradise WIldlife Park or Underwater World Langkawi – depending on whether your kids prefer feathered or finned friends.

Oh while you’re there, don’t miss the Langkawi Skycab and Bridge for spectacular views of the region’s tropical beauty - from hundreds of metres up in the sky.
LEGOLAND Malaysia, Johor Bahru

Our final recommendation is ideal for a quick 2D1N getaway – and it’s the closest to Singapore too!

LEGOLAND Malaysia, found just next door in Johor Bahru, makes for a fun-filled family getaway that satisfies without overstaying its welcome. Think rides, shows, attractions – and LEGO sculptures literally everywhere you look.

There are two theme parks to choose from: LEGOLAND, and LEGOLAND Water Park, and you can purchase tickets for each separately. We recommend spending one day at LEGOLAND, staying overnight at the LEGOLAND Hotel on site, and spending one more day splashing around at LEGOLAND Water Park before heading home.

Now that’s how you do a quick and fun family holiday!
