Before you may send CNY to your recipient via Weixin (WeChat) Pay, your recipient will first need to share their details with you.
- Your recipient can search for “跨境汇款 微汇款 (Tenpay Global Remittance)” on the Weixin app, and select “我要收款 (Receive Transfers)” to create a Recipient Card. The Recipient Card, which would contain all the recipient information that a sender requires to make a Weixin (WeChat) Pay transfer to the recipient, can then be shared with you after creation.
- After the Weixin (WeChat) Pay transfer from you to your recipient has been processed, your recipient should get an SMS from Weixin which will include a unique link for them to receive the transfer. The recipient will need to click on the link and choose “Collect Transfer” in the Weixin app.
- If your recipient has not selected their receiving method before, they will need first to select either to receive the transfer in their Weixin Pay e-wallet balance or to a linked bank card before they may receive such transfer.
- Your recipient will also need to follow instructions to authorise their phone number in order to receive SMS OTPs from Weixin, and verify any additional personal information as may be requested byWeixin relating to such transfer.
- If the Purpose of Transfer indicated by you as sender is to “Savings (to Self Only)", your recipient may be required by Weixin to provide additional information, such as their payslip.
- If the Purpose of Transfer indicated by you as sender is to "Family Support (to Close Relatives)”, your recipient may be required by Weixin to confirm their relationship to you as the sender.
- Once completed, the transfer should be credited to the receiving method selected by your recipient almost immediately.
Please note that the link sent via SMS by Weixin expires in 48 hours. If your recipient is unable to complete the required steps during the 48 hours, your Weixin (WeChat) Pay transfer will be cancelled and the funds returned to you.
Please note that in some cases, your recipient might receive a call from Weixin with an automated voice message. These automated calls will be in Mandarin and are sent only during the day from 8 AM - 9 PM daily. For more information about such automated calls, please see here.
