Why is my MariBank app access blocked and I am asked to uninstall some apps?

To safeguard you against potential malware threats, we may restrict access to MariBank app as a precautionary measure. This happens when we detect malicious or risky mobile applications on your device that could compromise your banking and personal information.

An infected device typically exhibits one or more of the following signs:

  • Unknown applications: The presence of apps you do not remember installing;
  • Strange behaviours: Unexpected activation of camera, microphone, or accessibility features, as well as unusual and frequent app crashes, or random pop-up ads;
  • Degraded performance: A sudden and significant reduction in device’s processing speed or responsiveness.

If your mobile device shows any signs of infection, follow the steps below:

  1. Disconnect from the Internet: Turn on Flight Mode or switch off mobile data and Wi-Fi. This stops remote access to your device through the malicious apps.
  2. Uninstall Suspicious Apps: Remove the app(s) mentioned in the pop-up message when you're trying to access the MariBank app, as well as any other applications you do not recognise.
  3. Run a Security Scan: Perform an anti-malware scan using Google Play Protect, your phone’s built-in device protection, or a trusted third-party anti-malware app to detect and remove malware from your device.
  4. Reset Your Device: If signs of infection persist, consider a factory reset for your device. Ensure all important data are backed up, before doing so.
  5. Secure Your Credentials: Change your password and/or Secure PIN, as your current credentials might have been compromised.
  6. Monitor Your Account: Ensure notifications are enabled and closely monitor your account activities.
